Intuition and VerBS "Touch the Moon" Live @Paid Dues

This is a video of Intuition & VerBS performing the lead single, "Touch the Moon," off of their EP entitled "Buzz" (dropping in late May) at the Paid Dues Festival in San Bernadino, CA on March 28th, 2009.

The duo formed a couple months ago as something fun between two friends to gain some extra depth to their discographies, and get a stronger word of mouth going while they work on solo projects.

VerBS hails from Culver City, CA and has been accomplishing a lot in the rap world at a young age. He is a co-founder of the Spliff @ Rehab Records on the first Friday of every month. He has toured with Murs as an opening act / hypeman. He has collaborated with artists such as Murs, Big Pooh, and Naledge. His freshmen effort "The Progress EP" is one of the hottest and most creative EP's to hit the West LA hip hop scene in recent years. Learn more @ www.myspace.com/verbsisthehomie

Intuition was raised in North Pole, Alaska but now resides down the street from VerBS in Culver City, CA. A Los Angeles hip hop scene veteran (read: he's getting old), Intuition has shared the stage with acts like Atmosphere, Lupe Fiasco, Murs, Method Man, and Living Legends. His debut record "Stories About Nothing" was criitically acclaimed and considered by many to be an LA underunderunderground classic. His sophomore effort "Girls Like Me" is becoming a highly anticipated follow-up.

Any fan of the neuvo West LA rap scene can appreciate this duo.

The organization of the We the People
festival was conceived due to a great need for a stimulant in social
awareness and an encompassing platform within the urban community to
inspire the involvement and active participation of the conscious urban
youth populous throughout the country.
While providing a vastly artistic and intellectually satisfying array of talent at the concert series, The We the People
festival's primary objective involves reaching out to the myriad of
organizations, groups, like-minded promotion firms, and of course
artists, in order to conceive the greatest arena in which to engage and
then garner participation from a grossly uninformed youth audience,
including all other age groups affected by contemporary matters that
involve our communities.
By in large, the We the People festival aspires to continue
to promote and suggest a much needed platform that calls for a voice
for the youth of our nation and those artists they credit with
acknowledging their daily struggles within the environments that
surround them, socially, culturally and politically.
The "We the People" festival promotes non-partisan, non-violent, environmental and politically conscious views.

Last Nite Was Ill

For those that came out last night, I would like to give a BIG THANK YOU.
To be honest, I don't think I have DJ'd like that in my life. I got the opportunity to spin a wide array of music - not just the hip hop you used to.

There was a 2 surprise performances - 1 from Rye Rye & DJ Aasha Adore (Bmore was definitely in the house), and another from world-famous DJ Class (Check his song with Kanye West).

The energy started out with DJ BootyTwo & Annalog. These 2 DJ's are dope, so definitely check em out when you get a chance.

I am truly grateful to have been invited to play along this huge amount of talented folks.

Shout out to DJ Skeet Skeet for putting together one helluva Monday night

LMFAO!!!! SOUTH PARK IS THE AWESOME FOR THIS!

heres his response... sounds like it did him some good....

SOUTH PARK MURDERED ME LAST NIGHT AND IT’S PRETTY FUNNY. IT HURTS MY FEELINGS BUT WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM SOUTH PARK! I ACTUALLY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON MY EGO THOUGH. HAVING THE CRAZY EGO IS PLAYED OUT AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE AND CAREER. I USE TO USE IT TO BUILD UP MY ESTEEM WHEN NOBODY BELIEVED IN ME. NOW THAT PEOPLE DO BELIEVE AND SUPPORT MY MUSIC AND PRODUCTS THE BEST RESPONSE IS THANK YOU INSTEAD OF “I TOLD YOU SO!!!” IT’S COOL TO TALK SHIT WHEN YOU’RE RAPPING BUT NOT IN REAL LIFE. WHEN YOU MEET LITTLE WAYNE IN PERSON HE’S THE NICEST GUY FOR EXAMPLE. I JUST WANNA BE A DOPER PERSON WHICH STARTS WITH ME NOT ALWAYS TELLING PEOPLE HOW DOPE I THINK I AM. I NEED TO JUST GET PAST MYSELF. DROP THE BRAVADO AND JUST MAKE DOPE PRODUCT. EVERYTHING IS NOT THAT SERIOUS. AS LONG AS PEOPLE THINK I ACT LIKE A BITCH THIS TYPE OF SHIT WILL HAPPEN TO ME. I GOT A LONG ROAD AHEAD OF ME TO MAKE PEOPLE BELIEVE I’M NOT ACTUALLY A HUGE DOUCHE BUT I’M UP FOR THE CHALLENGE. I’M SURE THE WRITERS AT SOUTH PARK ARE REALLY NICE PEOPLE IN REAL LIFE. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO DRAW MY CREW. THAT WAS PRETTY FUNNY ALSO!! I’M SURE THERE’S GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN THIS… THAT’S HOW YOU KNOW IT’S ME!

A Shot of Belvi to the Head... Weekly.(The Catch Up)

So its been a little under a month since my last post and I figured I'd spend the space allotted me updating you on all the things on the scene that I've seen. But I'm going to do it in installments. You see its not that I haven't had the means. I've been around many a laptop with ample internet connection. Its just that amidst the myriad of events both Val and Paul have been killing (some great, some "eh", promoters get your act together) and the projects, the meetings, the shows, the studio sessions, Lyrics works, Verbs raps, love life(s), etc., etc.... the past 3 weeks have been a monstrous task. Many nights of 3-4 hr. sleep periods, a hit of 5 Hr. Power (no I'm not being paid to say that), then back on the "grind." But all of that dreck has brought me back to where I wanted to be for so many days and nights. Back in front of the proverbial blue screen writing about the world around us as seen through my eyes. Now today's installment is music devoted and first and foremost, you've seen the pics you've watched the flicks, Paid Dues, the Hip Hop event Murs and Guerilla Union throw annually, was a complete success for me and mine. This is despite all the slights on Val's participation and despite the fact that we potentially had to share a small wing of a small bungalow with 3 other acts one of which is a group. Val spun the hell out of a sold out, 7,000 plus crowd of anxious Hip Hop enthusiasts. Now wait lets put this in perspective for a second. Prior to Paid Dues the largest collective of people Val or Verbs or I had even been in front of, let alone be afforded the opportunity to do or possibly do our thing, was in the low hundreds. To, in no time flat, go from a handful to a field full was exciting to say the least. Verbs had a great performance which reflected the sun and heat of early day in sound and quality. And Paul, Dj Printz Paul to you, lucked up on being able to Dj the V.I.P. room. All in all the day going and going back were awesome experiences for us young pups. On the topic of events and young pups I'd be remiss if I didn't devote some attention to the Spliff, the event that means the utmost to me. The Spliff was a complete triumph once again and has brought me immense joy to be a functional, vital piece of it's growth. There's symetry to one Spliff act and I. Prior to leaving for San Bernadino and Paid Dues, I went to Space 15 Twenty with Dj Val the Vandle, Dj Printz Paul, and head designer of I.K.W.T. (In Kicks We Trust) B. Wade (to be discussed soon) and got an up close and personal look at one of my new faovrite acts on the scene, The Mighty. To understand The Might imagine a WAY more skilled, more fashionable Digable Planets. They are built with two guys and a gal, all of whom can rap. Their show was lively and inviting and perfectly complemented the stillness of the night air. Safe to say Jayou, Nick Nyce, and DJ Cali Reds are something to watch out for. Now question: how fortunate was I to catch a glimpse of the future? Answer: extremely. It was round midnight (to quote the old song) Wednesday at the Little Temple Lounge in Silverlake. Tha LOCK performed to an enthusiastic, albeit small, crowd of music lovers and partial fans alike. The energy resonating through the speakers and stage was palpable. Their music is eclectic and vibrant to say the least. Infused with rap, r&b, rock (of sorts), electronica, beat boxing, etc., etc. The catch is that despite the multitude of styles everything fit succinctly with other. Though I'm always appreciative of it when I see it, I'm not used to seeing musical performances like that on such humble levels. I mean they were actually entertaining. And these are not established artists. They are local and sonically exquisite. There's no grandiose personas, egos, or air of entitlement to their music. Each track is saturated with dedication, sweat, persistence, and musical appreciation. Hope and I had a conversation post his show at the Grand Star Jazz Club ("show. bad. Hope. good") where we agreed that the thing that separates us and all of our ilk from the muck is clairvoyance and observation. We study the Greats, pattern our moves after theirs and build. If Sammy Davis Jr. didn't revolutionize tap from Bo' Jangles and black face to bow ties and big bands what would Gregory Hines and Savion Glover have become. We stand on the shoulders of giants and erect statues of ourselves. Tha L.O.C.K. have certainly paid the same close attention, but it's funny to me that in no other field is it taboo to give credit for inspiration or influence. I do understand that the competitive expectation in rap is only bested, maybe, by professional sports, still rap music is suffocating itself under the weight of it's inability to honor. Anyway to check out these artists you can go to www.myspace.com/themightygents or wethemighty.com for The Mighty and www.myspace.com/thalock for Tha L.O.C.K.

Ty & Kory "Million Dollar N!&&@"

Ty sent me this song awhile ago, and if you were in the house for the March Spliff, you got a copy of the rare "Raw & Bangin' Vol. 2" Mixtape. This is one of my favorite tracks off the mixtape. Ty just shot a video for his single, "Toot It & Boot It". Which we will be releasing very shortly...stay connected and check back in a couple of days for the video!
